An elliptic surface is an algebraic surface together with a map to a smooth algebraic curve such that the general fiber is a smooth curve of genus one. If there is a section of this map then the general fiber is an elliptic curve with origin given by this section. The possible singular fibers have been classified by Kodaira. In this talk I will discuss the possible configurations of those singular fibers for rational elliptic surfaces following the work of Rick Miranda.
