This talk is the Fifth Williams Lecture for the Advancement of Logic and Philosophy. <BR>Tea will be served at 3:30pm in 4E17.

Does the Continuum Hypothesis have an answer? If so, does this require a conception of the universe of sets which answers the other known (formally) unsolvable problems of mathematics? The investigation of these questions spans over a century of activity and I shall survey the current state of affairs as I see it. In brief, the entire enterprise is at a critical crossroads.
