Several aspects of D-brane instantons in four-dimensional, supersymmetric Type II string vacua are discussed. This includes a state of the art report on the CFT instanton calculus, in particular its application to the determination of instanton contributions to the superpotential and the holomorphic gauge kinetic functions. Finally, a couple of open questions are touched upon, related to further extensions of the instanton calculus.
