This lecture will feature an overview of the evidence that much of the matter in the solar system, galaxies, and the universe as a whole emits too little light to be observed directly by present techniques. Nevertheless, indirect techniques, such as gravitational lensing, are an extremely powerful tool for searching for and studying such objects.
