Enumerative geometry and Schubert calculus were subjects of Hilbert´s Fifteenth problem. Inspired by ideas in physics, surprising relations between numbers of rational curves were established using quantum cohomology and Gromov-Witten theory. Group actions lead to richer structures and refined calculations. I will discuss developments and extensions of these ideas for flag varieties, including new polynomials, formulas, techniques, and applications.
