We will discuss Birkhoff's ergodic theorem (sometimes known simply as the ergodic theorem). We will prove it. The strong law of large numbers then follows as an easy corollary (as opposed to the usual mammoth of a proof given for it). Time permitting we will also look at some applications of this.
