This talk will present a recent preprint of Manish Kumar having the same title (available at arXiv:0903.4472). It is shown that the commutator subgroup of the fundamental group of a smooth affine curve over any algebraically closed field k of positive characteristic is a profinite free group of rank equal to the cardinality of k. The author had previously proven this in the case of countable fields, and has now proven the result for uncountable fields.
