I will discuss a geometric/physical interpretation of the Kontsevich-Soibelman wall-crossing formula. Geometrically the formula is a key ingredient in a new construction of hyperkahler metrics. Physically it expresses the smoothness of an effective field theory obtained by reduction from four to three dimensions. This is joint work with Davide Gaiotto and Greg Moore.
