Special values of automorphic L-functions at their symmetry points have become topics of intensive studies from various aspects, and the study of their mean value estimates provides an effect tool to understand them. In this talk, we will discuss how the ideas of multiple Dirichlet series naturally come into the picture, and describe in particular how this approach suggests some interesting fine structures for the quadratic twists of automorphic L-functions.
