It is known that the regular inverse Galois problem is solvable (affirmatively) for any field that contains a large field. In this talk I will discuss the construction of a field K over which the regular inverse Galois problem can be shown to be solvable even though K does not contain a large field. Also the talk will be complemented by model theoretic observations on the regular inverse Galois problem. (This talk follows a paper of J. Koenigsmann.)
