I will discuss joint work with Gromoll which classifies nonnegatively curved metrics on S^2xR^2. The case S^2xR^3 is more difficult and more significant because it is related to the following question: how large is the family of nonnegatively curved metrics on S^2xS^2. I will discuss partial results towards the classification of nonnegatively curved metrics on S^2xR^3.
