Scattering rigidity allows one to tell the metric of a manifold with boundary by looking at the directions of geodesics at the boundary. In this talk I will prove the scattering rigidity of simple Riemmanian surfaces. Surprisingly, the proof involves knots in the solid torus heavily, and I will develop an isotopy invariant for a certain class of knots in the solid torus during the proof.
