For a finite semigroup S, with representation algebra kS over a field k, the irreducible representations are in one-to-one correspondence with the irreducible representations of the various local subgroups (Munn-Ponizovskii). For linear algebraic monoids, we introduce a coarse structure for the representation algebra which separates the "group representation" aspect from a "directed" aspect, and discuss the effect of deformation.
