Several problems in discrete geometry admit striking solutions coming from equivariant topology. We will unify some of these solutions through the Configuration-Space/Test Map (CS/TM) setup, thus reducing combinatorial or geometric facts to showing the nonexistence of certain G-equivariant maps. We pay special attention to how generalizations of the traditional ham-sandwich theorem fit into this paradigm by leveraging the theory of characteristic classes.
