The Legendre-Stirling numbers were discovered by Everitt, Littlejohn and Wellman in 2002 in a study of the spectral theory of powers of the classical second-order Legendre differential equation. In 2008, Andrews and Littlejohn were able to answer the open question of the combinatorics of these numbers by providing a combinatorial interpretation of the Legendre-Stirling numbers. In this talk we will define a generalized class of numbers which have the Stirling and Legendre-Stirling numbers as special cases and provide a combinatorial interpretation for these numbers.
