As a result of Flannigan´s "straightening out" theorem, the deformation theory of finite dimensional, basic, unidirectional algebras is particularly accessible. By recent advances in the representation theory of finite monoids, this includes am important class of monoids in which every element is idempotent. We consider, in particular, monoids of locally constant functions on {1,...,n} defined by a nested sequence of compositions of n.
