One problem that we are interested in is extracting useful information from images and datasets. In this talk, I will go over some useful tools in harmonic Analysis and show how they can be used to study local scales and oscillations in images and on curves and surfaces. The knowledge of local scales can be used for texture segmentation/decomposition and shape matching/comparison.

These are joint work with Peter Jones (Yale University) and Facundo Memoli (Stanford University).
