Taking quotients in many situations,(for instance the leaf space of a foliation, space of penrose tilings, irreducible representations of a lie group), loses too much information when done in the usual way. I will go over some simple examples of how one can use groupoids and tools of ncg to do quotienting so as to retain useful information about the quotient space, and will walk through some of the special cases mentioned above.
