I will first introduce Chen's iterated integrals construction and his notion of generalized power series connections and generalized holonomy. This machinery is central to his proof of a version of the "transfer/perturbation lemma" which describes the transfer of an A-infinity structure on the deRham DGA A of a manifold M to its cohomology. In the case where M is simply-connected, this machinery does even better: it gives an isomorphism between the Hochschild cohomology of A and the homology of the loop space of M.
