It is rare that history allows an experiment where a major revolution is carried out twice. In the History of Mathematics, the basic ideas are universal but they have unfolded in the works of Indian, Western (and Chinese) mathematicians in very different ways. Both negative numbers and calculus are examples where the same story was revealed but with such different sequences, motivations and social settings. I am not a historian but I will try to tell this still little-known story as best I can.
