An algebra A may be absolutely rigid (i.e., H^2(A,A) = 0) but nevertheless may depend continuously on some paramters, e.g., the rational functions on the sphere with 4 punctures. We will discuss several approaches to this phenomenon including a new (but still rather conjectural) concept of "variation" of algebras.
