In these talks, I'll present some of the analytical ideas that go into proving existence, bounds, and convergence of the "Ricci flow" equations that Hamilton and Perelman have applied to three- dimensional geometry. The first talk will cover short-time existence, the maximum principle, and some curvature pinching estimates.
