I will present Weinstein's paper "The cut locus and conjugate locus of a riemannian manifold". In this paper, the author shows that on any compact differentiable manifold not homeomorphic to $S^2$, there exists a riemannian metric and a point p whose cut and conjugate loci are disjoint.
