This talk will be a survey of results on Grothendieck's anabelian conjecture, which says that certain varieties (e.g. hyperbolic curves) are determined by their arithmetic fundamental groups. The talk will be based on a survey paper of Nakamura, Tamagawa, and Mochizuki.
